World class IT for a global company
Information Systems and Technology is a global function which supports Rio Tinto's worldwide operations by designing, implementing and managing information systems and technological solutions on behalf of the Rio Tinto group and its businesses.
These systems and solutions provide vital support to the business and the people within the business, facilitating effective and efficient operations and improving business performance.
Information Systems and Technology has around 1500 staff and contractors globally and is made up of the following divisions:
Strategy & Finance
The Strategy & Finance division is responsible for ensuring that the Information Systems and Technology function has a clear and compelling direction, and that we have processes in place that lead to its optimal and integrated execution.
Global Applications and Consulting
The Global Applications and Consulting division leads and manages the deployment and operation of technology enabled business solutions for our customers. They design, develop, deploy and support technical, commercial and collaborative tools to support decision making processes and deliver value.
Global Infrastructure
The Global Infrastructure division designs, implements and operates the global infrastructure for Rio Tinto and develops and maintains the infrastructure standards and the service and technology roadmaps. Three regional teams are responsible for infrastructure operation and rollout while a global team is responsible for service and technology planning and managing global initiatives.
Business Solution Centre
The Business Solution Centre division is accountable for executing Rio Tinto's Aligning Business Systems programme, which includes the development, implementation and support of the Rio Tinto Business Solution, based on the SAP ERP product.
Information Security
The Information Security division helps to ensure we provide secure information and technology environments for our customers, employees and partners. The unit partners with Rio Tinto's businesses to create a culture of security that continually improves business agility and security effectiveness.
Integration and Divestitures
The Integration and Divestiture team support any Rio Tinto business integrations and divestitures with effective change and project management, including the transfer of technology resources.
There are also three regional IS&T groups operating across the Asia Pacific, Americas and Europe, Middle East and Africa regions to provide the primary point of customer contact and delivery of IS&T services and functions. Their role includes customer engagement, delivery and support of business unit specific applications, support for global applications implementations and operation of a Project Management Office.
