Rio Tinto Brazil (Corumba)

Corumbá produces iron ore from an open pit mine in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Corumbá's iron ore is barged along the Paraguay River to South American customers. In 2006, the mine and plant produced two million tonnes.

Studies started in 2005 into the feasibility of expanding production in stages to 15 million tonnes per year and logistics options are being considered for expanded export sales and supplies to a proposed steel making project at Corumbá.

Rio Tinto increased its interest in Mineracao Corumbaense Reunida (Corumbá) to 100 per cent from 80 per cent in June 1999.
